T.J. Matthews

Partner

Mr. Matthews is a founding partner of Texas Southern Land and Minerals where he oversees business development strategy and plays an active role in advising exploration and mineral acquisition companies on project management and development of oil and gas assets.

Prior to founding Texas Southern Land and Minerals, Mr. Matthews served as a legal advisor for energy-focused companies on acquisitions and divestitures for mineral, royalty, and leasehold assets throughout Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma. He is an active licensed Texas attorney and has extensive experience in analyzing, drafting, and negotiating oil and gas transactions.

Mr. Matthews earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Marketing from the Harbert College of Business at Auburn University and a Juris Doctorate and Master of Business Administration from Mississippi College School of Law.

John Michael Wilshusen

Partner

Mr. Wilshusen is a founding partner of Texas Southern Land and Minerals where he oversees operations. He is a third-generation oil and gas entrepreneur with over 100 years of oil and gas experience in his immediate family.

Prior to founding Texas Southern Land and Minerals, Mr. Wilshusen worked in Texas politics before following in his father’s and grandfather’s footsteps to pursue a career in oil and gas.

Mr. Wilshusen has overseen or performed landwork in more than 25 Texas counties and in New Mexico, Arkansas, Wyoming, and North Dakota. He served as the lead broker on numerous land projects, including a Permian Basin development project with a budget in excess of $1 billion and a land team in excess of 100 people. Mr. Wilshusen has also developed numerous software solutions for the oil and gas industry and has strong working knowledge of Python, GIS, and database management.

Mr. Wilshusen graduated from Southern Methodist University.
